Western Sydney already has everything a family needs to live and prosper without needing to regularly make the commute to Sydney’s CBD, and it’s about to get even better. The Australian and NSW governments are working with the Western Sydney City Deal towards plans for a Western Parkland City.
While not a binding commitment, the Western Sydney City Deal, involving the Federal and NSW State governments as well as eight Western Sydney mayors, represents a new level of collaboration between the three tiers of government.
At its core are plans to invest in long-term transport and job-creation projects across Western Sydney, including sizeable investments in South West Sydney’s Campbelltown and Liverpool regions. Indeed, the future is looking brighter by the day for existing home owners in Catherine Park Estate and prospective home buyers who are considering calling Catherine Park home.
Western Parkland City and funding for local projects
The plans for the Western Parkland City acknowledge the untapped economic potential of Western Sydney. So, what does this all mean for South West Sydney and its residents?
At a grassroots level, so far Wollondilly, Camden and Campbelltown councils have received funding for a number of community projects under the Western Parkland City Liveability Program, which is part of the Western Sydney City Deal.
An $18.75 million state-of-the-art water recreation space is set to be built in Bradbury. Plans for the billabong include a range of recreational water play facilities over a four-hectare site on the corner of Oxley Street and The Parkway, including a stream, swimming lagoon and a zero-depth play area. It is expected that the project will be constructed and ready to open in 2021.
South West Sydney residents are set to benefit from joint funding of $15 million for three sport and recreation facilities in the area. The investment, coupled with a more than $11 million in contributions from Camden Council, will provide the area with three brand new sporting facilities.
Property prices on the rise
All of this focus on Western Sydney will have a lasting, positive impact on those who call Western Sydney home. While the rest of Sydney’s property prices continue to decline, in South West Sydney prices are likely to be more resilient as the area becomes more attractive to newcomers in search of a better lifestyle.
This is great news for residents of Catherine Park Estate, Harrington Grove, and Harrington Park, who have chosen to make these areas their home.
